Good News From The UK, Soon You Can Apply For The High Potential Individuals (HPI) Visa

The Maven Consulting Services team has good news to share from the United Kingdom. High Potential Individuals (HPI) visas will be available for those at the beginning of their careers and who will benefit from the UK workforce as of 30 May 2022. 

An HPI visa allows you to work for a short period. An applicant must have graduated from an eligible international university within the last five years.  A recent graduate must have their qualification verified by Ecctis, an organization responsible for authenticating documents.  

Before now, graduates or other interested individuals had to apply for a job first, receive an offer of employment, and then apply for a work visa. HPI visas, however, do not require an immediate job offer. These visas will not require job offers or sponsorship, and holders will be allowed to work, set up their own businesses, or volunteer in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions 

1. How can I verify my degree? 

You must verify your degree on Ecctis via their website https://www.ecctis.com/Qualifications/VAN/Default.aspx. According to the requirements listed on their website, the higher education degree(s) you have obtained will be compared to the standard of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees awarded in the UK. This is called the Academic Qualification Level Statement (AQUALS). The cost for this process is estimated at around £250. 

2. When do I start my application process? 

You can start your application process on 30 May 2022.  

3. How much would the HPI visa cost? 

The visa is priced at £715.  

4. Can I take my family with me to the UK? 

Yes, you can take your dependents, including your spouse, partner, and children. If you have a partner, you must show that you have lived together for more than 2 years and must have some proof of relationship.  

5. How long will the visa be valid? 

If you have a Ph.D., your visa will be valid for 3 years. If you have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, your access will be good for 2 years.  

6. Where can I check if the university I graduated from is ranked internationally according to the requirements of the HPI visa? 

Every year a list is published. Visit https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/high-potential-individual-visa-global-universities-list and click on the year you graduated to determine if your university is eligible.  

7. Is an English proficiency test required? 

Yes. Applicants whose degrees were not taught in English must pass an acceptable English language test at least at the B1 level. In the case of an English-taught degree, you will need a transcript or certificate from the awarding body.
