What is ECE Evaluation?

Foreign applicants acquiring opportunities in the United States, have to go through an umpty number of processes, one of which is ECE (EDUCATIONAL CREDENTIAL EVALUATORS) evaluation. People from other countries have different grading systems, so it’s hard for American schools or employers to understand how good their grades are. ECE helps by translating their grades into a system that Americans understand, like a 4.0 scale.

This is done through a third-party organization that has been authorized by American institutes called the Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). The company provides a report equalizing the grades and helping international students acquire opportunities in the United States.

The basis of assessment to equalize the score to a US 4.0-based grading system is:

  • The institute you studied from
  • The merit of your grading system
  • The competitiveness to secure that score in your country and university.
  • How your grades would look applying the above to the US education

Summing up the process of ECE, it is made to evaluate and verify educational credentials (degrees, diplomas, etc.) that foreign students have acquired from a non-US college. International aspirants can not apply to institutes in the US without an ECE evaluation.

It’s intended to reassure the admissions committee that your overseas education meets the quality standards of an American program.

Types of ECE Reports

When applying to various universities and programs, it’s essential to understand the specific type of report each institution requires. Whether you’re exclusively applying to the Advanced Standing International Dental Program or considering other graduate programs, the table below outlines the available options:

TypeCostFeaturesValidity
General$100Confirms the authenticity of academic documents and recognizes the status of your institution and the equivalency of your program of study
General with Grade Average$130Offers the same features as the General report but includes a cumulative GPA
Course-by-Course$195Provides detailed information on all individual coursework, including the U.S. or Canadian equivalent course title, grade, and creditsValid for one year

It’s important to note that while the General and General with Grade Average reports offer a broader overview of your academic credentials, the Course-by-Course report provides a comprehensive breakdown of your coursework. Additionally, the validity of the Course-by-Course Report is one year from the date of issuance, ensuring its relevance throughout your application process.
