CONSIDER THIS …

Every year thousands of Indian students apply to hundreds of universities across the globe. Statistics show that more than 7 lakhs students leave India to pursue higher education abroad. While the foreign education admission process may be a complex procedure, working with a study abroad agency, such as Maven Consulting Services, will help students to better understand the process and create a more seamless application. Expert guidance during the application process can help students decide on important study abroad factors.

We have curated a list of 5 questions to consider when choosing to study abroad:

1. Does the university offers quality education?

Indian students should take caution when choosing a university to study abroad. While the thought of gaining an international degree is exciting and rewarding, you do not want to arrive at a university that offers below or a sub-standard level of education.

You must conduct careful research on the quality of education offered at the campus of your choice. Seek for reviews from students on the quality of education.  Read the QS Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings and learn about the top universities in the world.

While the criteria to secure admission into top universities may be more difficult, you are guaranteed top-quality education. At Maven Consulting Services we research the best universities across the globe and advise our students on choosing the universities that best suit their academic career goals and offer the highest quality of education.

Indian students who wish to study abroad for a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. must consider universities that offer excellent research opportunities.

2. Is the university accredited?

There are thousands of universities abroad and do not let your dream of studying overseas cloud your judgment when choosing your university. Ensure that the university you are applying to is internationally recognized, offers government and education board-accredited courses, and degrees are recognized outside the country.

Should you skip doing thorough research on the university of your choice, you could set yourself up for wasted time and inevitable failure. Ensure that the university meets all the requirements for being internationally recognized.

Speak to your overseas education consultant to help you find universities that are accredited and offer internationally recognized degrees.

3. Will this internationally recognized degree offer me lucrative employment?

Most Indian students, who wish to study abroad, choose not to return home after graduation; on the condition they find suitable employment internationally. If your priority is to find a job outside India, ensure that the degree you are choosing will offer you an opportunity to rank high among candidates who apply to large companies abroad.

Speak to an overseas education consultant at Maven Consulting Services and learn about countries that offer their foreign student’s employment opportunities and an employment visa for a year after graduation. This will ensure that you gain minimum international work experience.

Consider universities abroad that partner with large multinational companies and place students for long-term internships to help them gain international work experience.

4. Can I adapt to the natural and physical conditions of this country?

Indian students are conditioned to hot and cool climates and some students have never experienced extreme winter conditions such as heavy rains, hail, or snow. While these may seem fun to experience at first, there are certain countries that experience this weather for long periods of time.

Once the excitement of seeing snow for the first time fades, snowy weather for long periods of time can become depressing and gloomy. If you cannot adjust to this type of weather, then choose countries with similar weather conditions to India or conditions that you are certain that you would be able to adjust to.

Choose countries where access to foods that you enjoy is easily available, where it is safe for students and where public transport is easily available especially if you choose to live off campus. Studying abroad can come as a huge culture shock to Indian students, however, you can choose to adapt to your natural and physical surroundings by immersing yourself in the local culture and experience.

5.  Is the country/university friendly towards international students?

Choosing to gain an internationally recognized degree overseas in a country that is friendly towards international students should be a top priority for Indian students wishing to study abroad.

It is imperative to study among a community of those who are accepting of you, especially when living away from the comfort and security of your home.

Ensure that the university you are applying to teaches its courses in English so that you can understand your coursework and remain a competitive candidate in the international job market.

Be careful in your research and choose universities that include international students in campus programs and other extracurricular activities.

We hope that you consider these factors when choosing to study abroad. Remember preparation is paramount for your study overseas.
