Worries and concerns of students studying abroad (1)

Students have been known to have worries and anxieties of several things at once that pressurizes them and puts their mental health at stake. The major worries of students studying abroad have been varying overtime, but due to the pandemic they seem to be rising and altering with COVID-19 issues.

Let’s have a look at the list of worries and concerns of students studying abroad to see if they have solutions and anything in our control can be done about them.

Travel Issues:

Primary problem that worries 63% of the students studying abroad are travel issues, the students are worried that they might not be able to go back home during the pandemic while others are worried that they would not be able to reach back to their universities in time for classes as most of the countries have put a stop on their travelling process.

Visas are now facing a block in its procedures while the universities are showing no concern for the visa problem of students that belong from abroad countries.

The solution is to keep yourself at alert with all the rising news and updates so you can act accordingly and look up for opportunities that can help you out in such a crisis.

New Admissions:

The students have been facing problems highly with admissions as most universities have closed their admissions due to the pandemic.

Universities of Britain have made it prominent that they might be continuing admissions only for the locals and would no longer be accepting any applications from the international students. Meanwhile other countries have completely shut off their admissions for the time being

Online Classes:

Students are highly facing issues regarding online classes all over Asia, the lack of initiatives that the governments are taking in this regard has led to major problems in the academic contributions of the students.

Students mainly of biological background and higher educational courses are completely devastated due to the lack of internet and modern educational resources. The student leagues of such countries are demanding incentives with regards to their issues.

Healthcare:

With the rise of the virus and its dangers, the students are now facing a novel problem. 44% of the students are worried that they will be having issues with the healthcare department if they fall sick,

The COVID-19 has only made additions to such a problem by raising chances of getting sick. Most of the universities do not provide Abroad Student Insurance which makes it more difficult for the students to cover their expenditures.

Discrimination:

A very common issue is that students face massive discrimination on a daily basis, be it from the side of institution’s authorities or from other students. They are given opportunities based on discriminative behavior and implicit bias.

Not long ago was a University in Estonia banned on the basis of discriminative behavior amongst students. A great amount of 38% students from abroad are worried about more discriminative behavior effecting their lives.

Overcoming a mass issue may not be as easy as personal comprehension but it is vital that the students speak up for such situations so that required action can be taken in regards.

Language Difficulties:

The students that have been studying abroad have a most common problem since the start of abroad opportunities. Language has been a barrier to those struggling with studies abroad mainly because learning a new language along with their course work is too much of a burden

Coping up with the new culture and relatively new lifestyle, it becomes too much for a student to maintain a schedule of learning a completely new language.

The best way of overcoming language problems is to NOT learn the complete language first, it is essential to learn the important phrases such as ‘Help’, ‘What is the direction to.” “Which way is…” etc. to be able to communicate essential things that you would regularly need to.

Money:

Though there are many scholarships and free institutes abroad, students worry about their daily expenses and everyday money requirements. Some countries even provide a earn and learn scheme for students to work as they continue their studies.

The only way to overcome this issue is by proper research, there are abundance of opportunities solving the financial problems abroad but they can only be known if the students research before enrolment in any institute whether the institute is providing enough financial opportunities or not.

Safety and Security concerns:

The lack of relations in abroad countries and the fact that students are far from their families makes it difficult to maintain safety. The students are completely left on their own and their security is put at stake, this is a huge problem linked to the issue that they are not familiar with the culture and locations of the country.

The solutions to the issue are that the student should make sure that someone knows where they are, it is best to also keep company of locals. Emergency phone numbers and local contacts should be kept at all times. One should be aware of what the circumstances and local news is to remain alert.

Worries of Missing out:

Students at a young age are majorly concerned with adaptation issues, their reliability on themselves and self-confidence is extremely low. Students are concerned that they would miss out on events, family time and friends’ gatherings back home.

In reality, moving abroad for studies is an option that can facilitate your life with new events, new people and a completely new atmosphere. Not only is it a break from a regular old robotic life but also the novel experiences bring about changes and a greater view to life overall.

Homesickness:

It is not a myth but in fact a harsh reality that students studying abroad have to go through on a routine basis. Missing home and feeling lonely at times is completely natural,

It is best to reach out to people, make connections and start reading about your situation to escalate to a better level of understanding. Meanwhile, keeping a connection back home, talking it out with friends and letting others know of your situation brings in immense support and help!
